After her loud proclamation, various other visitors of the Fifty Below nightclub cheered, some eve raised their glasses to toast to her. Andy gulped down the rest of her Sex on the Beach, and before she was able to order another one, her twin sister, Stefani, grabbed onto her wrist. ”Jesus, Andy, you’re beginning to revert back to childhood with that alcohol in your system.” Rolling her eyes, Andrea freed her wrist and spun in her bar seat to face her sister head-on. It was nearly midnight, and already Andrea was close to ordering her fifth drink. The last thing Stefani wanted to do tonight was hold back her sister’s hair to keep her from puking all over it. ”Aww, come on, Steffy baby.” Andy said to her with a pouted lip and a slight slur. ”I’m just tryin’ to have some fun, okaaay? It’s Saturday night, girl! Let loose! Unclench some of those vaginal muscles and have some fun.” Hearing her sister speak so crudely made Stefani blush. Andy really got on her nerves when she was like this. ”Another round for me and my home girl, barkeep!” The bartender rolled his eyes, but complied with her request. Stefani sipped on her Pink Lady and glanced around the room. Those dancing to the DJ’s music looked to be having the time of their lives, but she knew Andy wouldn’t go out and dance yet. Her sister had clubbing down to a science. There was a certain time to head to the club, a certain number of drinks to order in a certain elapsed amount of time, and there was also a perfect moment to begin dancing in order to snag the right kind of guy. But Stefani wasn’t in the mood for any of Andy’s theories. ”Think I’m gonna go dance.” she told her sister, setting her glass down and hopping down from the bar seat. ”Heh, wait, what? It’s not even midnight yet.” Stef rolled her eyes, but kept the gesture to herself. ”Just watch my drink, I’ll be back later.” She then moved towards the music, her yellow dress swishing a bit while she walked. Her heels clicked, but the music was so loud she couldn’t really hear it. She moved towards the clustered group of dancers, moving until she was surrounded by sweaty bodies. Then she began to dance. She let loose in this way, letting her body move to the hypnotic, seductive, lingering beats, and she’d appear just as seductive and hypnotic to whoever would be watching her.

How on earth did he get dragged into this?
Koryu hid a frown from his face as he stepped into the nightclub, but he deeply disapproved. Although he was a teenager in appearance, he had all the mannerisms and maturity of an adult - a very cultured one at that. As such, he didn't like parties like this. For one thing, they were noisy. For another, they were festering grounds for hell knows what kind of immorality.
Still, he was dragged here by his coworkers. His cover job was a real estate agent, and he had to keep up appearances, like going to this club. Honestly, he preferred to be back at home, maybe perhaps working - being a financial officer at the Light of Shadows does come with a lot of work (albeit good pay). But still, he didn't have much of a choice.
Drinks were ordered all around, although Koryu only took at most two sips of his drinks and listened to his coworkers yell loudly over the music, partially drunk, over different life stories, be it some girl they snagged, a sale over some stupid customer they got, and whatnot. He smiled politely, but that was it. Really, he didn't care for parties or this kind of nonsense whatsoever.
"Hey, I'm seein' some hot chicks out! Come on, maybe we can grab one or two!" one of his coworkers said, scouting out the dance floor. All of Koryu's other coworkers yelled loudly in agreement, and they all got up to get to the dance floor. Koryu would've stayed in the booth and quietly slip out if one of his coworkers didn't catch him staying.
"Oh no, come on, Mr. Polite, you're coming too!" he said, dragging Koryu by the arm. "But I don't..." Koryu said, but he knew it was no use. He sighed inwardly to himself. Great. Maybe he would still have a chance to slip out afterward.
Joining the dancing throng, Koryu moved his body to the rhythm, sinking into it. He was a great appreciator in music as well, much like his good friend Hayate - who he swore was on the Island too. It was good to keep his contacts close. Koryu didn't wear anything too crazy - a navy-blue Polo t-shirt with slacks and sneakers. However, it did show his arms and a bit of his figure - lean and toned.
Then he saw a girl in a yellow dress. Only a bit younger than him but... rather beautiful too. Koryu wasn't the type to go and charm girls, but he figured it couldn't hurt to try. Moving with her, he began dancing with her, matching her rhythms and moves perfectly.
That little ability came with martial arts training.

Stefani continued to dance, letting her body move to the music. This was a remix of one of her favourite songs, and this remix really did have a nice beat to it. She wasn’t sure what it was that had her feeling stressed lately, whether it was her sister’s increase in ‘games’ she’s had to participate in, or if school work was getting the best of her, or if it was just everything that had been piling up in her life for a long time, but she felt like she really needed this night to just dance and unwind. She moved to the music without caring who was around her or who was watching. The moment she did begin to care was when somebody began to approach her. When she looked up for a moment, she noticed a guy that was dancing among the throng of people, but he was moving between them, moving closer to her. She found herself looking at him while she danced, studying his handsome, well-sculpted face, unlike what she’d seen before. Soon, he was dancing in front of her, and when she realized he was looking at her and she was staring, she blushed a bit, smiling and looking off to the side, still dancing. She really was a teenager, wasn’t she? One look from a cute guy and her face was set to flame. But at least it didn’t make her feel suddenly shy, or give her the urge to run away and crawl in the hole – she only faltered for a moment. Still she continued to dance, and noticed that this guy was a good dancer too, keeping up with the rhythm of her body so easily, making it clear that he was dancing with her and her alone. Stefani smiled up at him as the song went on, and it just gave her the will to dance more and more. However, as the song began winding down, and she knew the DJ would overlap it with another song in a matter of moments. But she was actually feeling a bit tired all of a sudden, and felt like maybe a break was in order. When the song began to change over, to another one she actually liked, she mimed the action of taking a drink out of a glass in front of the guy, and nodded her head towards the bar. And there was no flirting in her movements, or suggesting, it was just her silent way of saying, ‘I need a drink, you’re welcome to join me’. With that, she began to move towards the bar, but not the part where her sister was probably still camped out. She just didn’t feel like getting her sister into the mix right now, especially if the guy decided to follow her over to the bar. ”Bottle of water, please.” she told the bartender, and he nodded, going to grab one for her. She just sat there and then swivelled in her seat, listening to the music while looking over to see if that handsome guy from the dance floor had decided to join her.

Moving to the rhythm felt... easy for Koryu. He never knew why - maybe it was a natural talent. As for being able to match the girl's rhythm, it came from advanced martial arts training. When a person fought, they had their own distinctive attack pattern and rhythem. I was part of his job to deduce what the rhythm was. Dancing wasn't too different.
The girl herself was rather cute. A beautiful face, like a model's, smooth unblemished skin, small-ish breasts (not like he cared too much, to be honest), and a healthy figure. She was quite attractive, to say the least. Koryu, however, did not blush nor show any attraction. When he caught her staring, the only thing he did was give a pleasantly polite smile. He was good at concealing his emotions, allowing only for a smile and pleasant demeanor most of the time. Also, he was rather patient too, which was good.
She saw her mime a drinking action and motion over to the bar, and he got the message, nodding. He didn't feel like dancing anymore either. Besides, this girl seemed... pleasant. He had a gut feeling about it. Koryu was no playboy - he only had one girlfriend in the past, and it didn't work out. They parted on rather good terms. Since then, he had just been too busy for another girl. Maybe it was time for a chance.
Weaving through the crowd, he called to the bartender, "A bottle of water, thank you." Koryu honestly hated alcohol, and only drank it when necessary, like formal occasions. Otherwise, he avoided it like the plague. The bartender nodded, grabbed two bottles and put one each in front of them. Koryu blinked in surprise, then he chuckled. What a coincidence they ordered the same thing.
"You're a good dancer," he said, giving the small polite small he almost always had when talking to people.

When she looked, Stefani couldn’t even see where that guy had ended up. It was a bit of a shame; that guy had been really cute, and she thought that he might’ve wanted to stick around for a while longer. Just then, she turned back towards the bar to grab her drink, and noticed two bottles of water – one designated for that guy, who was standing right there on the other side of her, and had been the whole time. She was surprised he didn’t order a real drink, but she didn’t think anything of it; not like alcohol hydrated a person in any real way. And after that dancing, water was just what the both of them needed. The guy was smiling at her, and she picked up her bottle of water, not looking away from him. "You're a good dancer” he told her, and she smiled, answering him with, ”You were pretty good out there yourself.” This didn’t really feel like flirting in the typical sense, if it was flirting at all. It was like they were trying to have a pleasant conversation in a place as loud as this club, which was incredibly rare. ”Here, sit.” she told him, gesturing to the seat next to her. She didn’t want him to get away from her all that easily; pleasant company was hard to find, especially in a place like this, where guys were more interested in grinding up against you than talking to you at the bar. ”Here to unwind for the night?” she asked him, attempting to start a conversation with him, and to try to get to know him, to learn what kind of person he was. She got a feeling that he wasn’t your typical guy.

You were pretty good out there yourself.
Koryu's smile widened a bit and he nodded in acknowledgment and respect. He always accepted compliments, particularly genuine ones. He had a feeling that she wasn't like the other girls here - party-goers who often got drunk or drugged, then went and did stupid stuff. Koryu frowned heavily down upon that. Maybe it was just the adult in him...
Here, sit.
He nodded and sat down beside her. He looked at all the party-goers, how they all enjoyed themselves. He took a gulp of water. He never really liked parties. He only tolerated formal ones. He was rather introverted, and was the type to have only a few friends - but good friends. He didn't really care that much for popularity.
Here to unwind for the night?
Koryu chuckled in response. "No, I was, ah, dragged here, so to speak," he said with that pleasant smile. "And what about you? I have a feeling that you don't want to be here either." Indeed, this girl felt... out of place here. Sure, she looked the part, but otherwise, she looked like she would rather be in a quieter area, somewhat like him. He could tell form people.
Again, one of the aspects of business was the ability to read people.

And Stefani nodded, knowing that he really didn’t seem like the clubbing type. He wasn’t even dressed like the others here were. She finally took hold of her water, unscrewing the cap of the bottle, the plastic digging into the skin of her hand a bit when it first started resisting her, still facing him as he continued to speak to her. "And what about you? I have a feeling that you don't want to be here either." She nodded. This definitely wasn’t her scene. She much preferred to use Saturday nights for homework, and to spend the day and afternoon at the beach. It was the beach that was her absolute favourite place to go, either with her sister or alone. ”Well, you’re right about that one.” she told him, taking the first sip from her water bottle. ”This is actually more of my sister’s scene. She dragged me here as well.” Looking around at the people dancing, she could tell that everybody here was having a Saturday night filled with fun. And while dancing, and even now with this gorgeous stranger, she knew that she was the same as them. ”She’s probably having a blast with her usual band of followers at the other bar though, so I’m not too worried about her.” Taking another sip, she set her bottle, with the cap securing the top, onto the bar, still turned in her seat to face him. ”Do you need to be getting back to your friends that brought you here?” she asked, suddenly aware that she could be taking him away from his friends and they could be wondering where he was. She also remembered something else; this guy, whoever he was, was definitely older than her, and since she and her sister had fake I.D.s to get in here, he was probably under the assumption that she was 21 or older. As often as possible, she avoided any kind of deception, but when she had to make sure her sister didn’t get drugged and kidnapped, she didn’t have much of a choice.

Well, you’re right about that one. This is actually more of my sister’s scene. She dragged me here as well. She’s probably having a blast with her usual band of followers at the other bar though, so I’m not too worried about her.
Koryu nodded, and looked at the other bar, curiosity getting the better of him. But in the dim lighting and with all the shifting people around, it was hard to tell anything from this distance. He gave a little mental shrug. Well, no matter. It wasn't like it was important anyway.
Do you need to be getting back to your friends that brought you here?
He thought about it, and looked at the dance floor. His coworkers were busy dancing with plenty of girls. Koryu allowed his smile to slip and give a rather flat expression, and replied calmly, "Trust me, I don't think they'll notice me if I left." Indeed, his coworkers were plenty drunk and with women - they wouldn't remember they evne brought him in the morning.
Koryu was actually also underage too, being only 19 years old. His coworkers simply pulled a few strings to allow him to get in, no problem. Still, he hated this kind of place.
"Speaking of which, I never got your name, Ms...?" he said, turning toward the girl.

Stef shrugged. Clearly this wasn’t his kind of place at all, but at least he wasn’t being taken away too soon. They hadn’t really talked about much just yet, but she got the feeling that neither one of them really felt like leaving. Conversation in such a loud and crowded place was rare, after all. Just as she realized that she still didn’t have a name to put to this guy’s handsome face, he beat her to the punch by asking, "Speaking of which, I never got your name, Ms...?" She straightened up then, saying, ”Oh! Right, sorry about that.” She extended her hand to him, which was probably a bit of an outdated gesture, but for some reason it seemed to be fitting here. ”I’m Stefani Peterson.” It seemed this guy, whatever his name may be, was being genuinely nice to her. And it clearly had an effect on her, she felt slightly nervous and a bit giddy, like any other teenage girl with a crush. At the moment, Stefani wished that she had at least slight skills in flirting. Her sister was the Queen of acting bold and getting just what she wanted. Of course, that wasn’t what Stefani was looking for, and the only way she knew how to flirt was to impersonate her sister – there was no middle ground. Skills such as that might’ve come in handy here – not to tilt the conversation towards anything carnal, but to maybe make it a little clearer that she was mature, she liked him and had done this kind of thing before. That last part, of course, wasn’t true.

Oh! Right, sorry about that. I’m Stefani Peterson.
Koryu smiled and shook her hand. "Koryu Nakamura. A pleasure, Ms. Peterson," he replied courteously. That was Koryu. He was far more mature than a teenager, despite his age, and treated everyone with due courtesy. It's helped him quite a bit in his business - it makes few enemies, and a lot of friends.
However, he still had his dislikes. Like the music that was coming from the speakers and everyone was dancing to. Koryu hated loud noises, and frankly, this music was pounding into his ears so hard, his head was starting to ache. Talk about irritating.
"Would you like to step outside with me for some fresh air?" he asked Stef. "Honestly, this is... not my environment, so to speak." It was obvious from the way he spoke that he meant that quite innocently - just going outside, possibly talk more. He wasn't flirting with her or even hinting at anything. Koryu was simply too much of a gentleman to do something like. Unlike a certain friend of his who lived on this island.

, extending another kind smile towards her. Stefani couldn’t help but smile as well, since his smile was contagious to a degree. It was genuine, which just made him look even more attractive. Stef actually hated herself a little bit. Here was thys guy who was being nice to her and not hitting on her in any fashion, and here she was admiring his looks and pondering ways to maybe flirt and show she’s interested in him. It made her feel a bit shallow. Just then, Koryu asked her, "Would you like to step outside with me for some fresh air? Honestly, this is... not my environment, so to speak." She could also tell that he still wasn’t hitting on her by asking her this, and decided that it might be nicer to talk to him outside, where it was a bit quieter – maybe even more intimate. She mentally cursed as the thought entered her head. She was starting to think closer and closer to her sister’s regular train of thought. ”Yeah, I’d like that.” she told him, still smiling, and she grabbed her water bottle again before hopping off her bar stool, and gesturing that Koryu could lead the both of them outside. Once they made it out the front door, she nodded towards the bouncers there, who seemed pleased enough since they clearly weren’t drunk and they weren’t a hormone-driven couple who were all over each other. Stef continued to walk untl she saw a bench in a small atrium, near another wall of the building. It was meant as a bus stop, but she knew the bus didn’t come this late. ”Feel like sitting?” she asked, pointing towards the bench inside the atrium. Since they were still close to the building, they could still hear a bit of the music that was playing inside.

Yeah, I’d like that.
Koryu smiled a bit wider. Good. At least it wouldn't inconvenience her. He got off, grabbed his bottle and left with her outside, giving a courteous not to the bouncers waiting outside. Such men did a good job keeping low-lifes away from this club - though frankly, lowlifes were coming out of the club anyway. Drunk ones.
Feel like sitting?
He nodded and said, "Sure," sitting beside her. He took a deep breath. The air was much different than the stale air of inside the club. It felt much better. Then he felt that something was missing... He took out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter, lit one up, and inhaled, then taking the cigarette away and blowing away the smoke.
Yes, Koryu was a smoker. It was a great stress reliever for him, to be honest. It felt as though he was blowing all the smoke that dwelled within his mind away. Koryu also kept himself in great physical condition, so the habit didn't really wear him down much. He knew many people didn't like smokers, though.
Then he blinked and turned to Stef, a bit embarrassed. "I'm so sorry, I forgot my manners... smoking is a bit of a bad habit I picked up a while ago. Do you mind or...?" Koryu meanwhile read her physical language. She might say no, but if she showed signs that she didn't like it, he'd instantly extinguish the cigarette. He had a strong will as well, and wasn't a chain smoker. He only smoked when he felt like it and to relieve stress. He never really was addicted to it.

After agreeing that sitting down was a good idea, Stefani walked with Koryu towards the bench inside the atrium. She was actually a bit glad that she could still hear the music from inside – she liked some of the music, though for sitting in there and trying to have a conversation, it had been too loud. Now it was just right, and she enjoyed the remix from a distance. As they sat, with Koryu in the middle of the bench and Stef on his right side, she let her head rest back against the cool glass for a moment. Winter might’ve been approaching the rest of the world, but this island carried a tropical climate, so she doubted they would see any snow here. Stefani was used to that though, her and her siblings being from California, they’d never actually seen the snow. She remembered that their parents were planning on taking them to New York in January on a family trip... now they wouldn’t be able to go. And she’d probably never get to experience snow first hand now... Just then, her train of thought derailed when a cloud of smoke suddenly blew in front of her face, moved by the slight breeze coming into the atrium. Stefani coughed, mainly out of surprise, and looked over to see Koryu with a cigarette between two fingers, a lighter in his other hand. Well that she hadn’t been expecting... He then addressed it, clearly having seen her struggle with the smoke, saying, "I'm so sorry, I forgot my manners... smoking is a bit of a bad habit I picked up a while ago. Do you mind or...?" Immediately she shook her head, not wanting him to worry about her at all and said, ”Oh, no, it’s no trouble.” Thinking about it for another moment, she knew that if she coughed at the smoke again he’d feel bad about it. ”Except, um, here.” she then said, standing up and moving to sit on his other side. ”There, now neither of us have to worry about the smoke.” She didn’t want to appear rude, and she honestly didn’t mind him smoking, so long as he wasn’t blowing the smoke directly towards her. As she studied his image, with the dark that surrounded them and the light from the nearby streetlamps... she wasn’t sure if the smoking added to it but he almost looked... Sexy. Like one of those tall, dark and handsome types. She blushed as the thought entered her mind and when she realized she was probably staring, and immediately repressed those thoughts. She hoped that Koryu couldn’t read her face too well to know what she was thinking about. ”U-um, so why don’t you... tell me about yourself, Koryu. All you really mentioned was that you’re here because some people dragged you...” Deciding to relieve herself of any more awkwardness caused by her earlier thoughts, she smiled and added, ”And the only other thing I know about you is that you’re a really good dancer.” And this wasn’t her flirting, it was just a genuine compliment, given for no reason other than she wanted to give it.

Oh, no, it’s no trouble. Except, um, here.
Koryu blinked as he watched Stefani move from one side to another, probably to avoid the smoke blowing in her face, which is understandable. Not many people like inhaling the acrid fumes of the smoke that came from a cigarette. He didn't blame her for switching her position.
There, now neither of us have to worry about the smoke.
Koryu smiled and nodded, glad she was so understanding. Smoking... he picked it up only a year ago, when he tried it for the first time. He coughed, but it was a great stress reliever. He had heard of all the risks that came from smoking, though, so he pretty much kept it to a minimum and only smoked outside. He didn't want the stench of cigarettes to keep clinging to him, nor did he want his own house to smell like smoke.
U-um, so why don’t you... tell me about yourself, Koryu. All you really mentioned was that you’re here because some people dragged you... And the only other thing I know about you is that you’re a really good dancer.
He chuckled. Well, he could tell her a few things about himself. Nothing too detailed though - he had a cover to keep. "Well, there's not much to know. The people who dragged me here were my coworkers," he explained. "I'm only a real estate agent. I live a pretty simply life - work, eat, sleep, and work some more." If there was one flaw Koryu had, it was that he was a workaholic. In some ways, even more so than his friend Kenji who practically devoted himself to research and academics.
"And what of you?" he asked, taking another drag on his cigarette and letting out the smoke on the other side.

"Well, there's not much to know. The people who dragged me here were my coworkers.” Koryu began. And Stefani listened while taking another sit of her water as he began telling her about his work. "I'm only a real estate agent. I live a pretty simply life - work, eat, sleep, and work some more” Perhaps he was a bit older than he looked? After all, to already have an established career in real-estate...? Trying to think back to various advertisements around town, she wasn’t sure if she’d seen Koryu’s face on any of those yard signs or benches or in the papers... Then again, she wasn’t completely positive. It made her feel silly; the only time she could have a mature conversation with somebody was when the other person was much more matured than she was. As expected, Koryu soon asked, ”And what of you?”, and she thought hard about what to say. Stefani watched him blow out more smoke from another drag of his cigarette while she tried to think of an answer she could give. ”Well... I’ve just got a small job right now.” she told him, deciding to focus more on her work than on the fact that she was still in high school. It would probably result in her looking like a pathetic loser, but she would have to risk that. Otherwise, if he found out how old she really was, this conversation would be over. ”I temp at different places around town; mainly I tend the snack bar at the public pool. Just haven’t found any place that’s a good enough fit yet.” It was only a partial dishonesty; she was working at the snack bar at the public pool. But the only other work she did besides that was homework and working to keep her sister from getting into trouble. ”So do you work at one of those really cheesy agencies with your name plastered on mugs and Frisbees and flyers scattered everywhere?” she then asked him, lightening the tone of the conversation a bit, joking around with him slightly as she dangled her water bottle by holding the neck with two fingers.
