This was a typical night for Leiko, in which she felt a little restless being cooped up in her room with her studying and her computer and wanted to go out and move a little bit. It wasn’t too long of a walk to the regular beach, but even at night it was possible to happen upon other people, and she felt better when she was alone at the best of times. Whenever she wanted to take a quick dip in the ocean, there was a cove she tended to visit that not a lot of people visit because of the overgrown wildlife and the shelf of rocks that were dangerous to climb. It was a place like this where Leiko felt the most comfortable. A place where nature had free reign and there was no manmade objects or lumbering done to change or ruin it. She wasn’t sure if she had felt this strong connection to nature for her entire life, but she had clear memories of the meadow she would play in as a child, and how much she would love it there. She went back to visiting it again around the time she realized about her powers. Before everything fell apart at the place she once called home.
It wasn’t often anymore that she dwelled on her past, her life back in Buffalo. She had been living on this island for two years now, and was much happier here than she would’ve ever been if she had never been sent here. She had a new family, one that had welcomed her into their home, and one that loved her very much. She loved them so much that she had changed her surname to fir theirs. They accepted her for who she was, even if she was a little bit on the odd side. She tended to be anti-social, and preferred to stay in her room, either to study or watch Japanese dramas or work on the roleplay site that she ran. Not only did she have a dislike for people that derived from past experience, but she found that when she was outside, surround by all the things that her powers were derived from, that she was never truly alone.
After making it to an impressive peak of the wall of rocks, roots and various plant life, she laid out her towel and set down her bag she usually took with her to the beach. Stripping off her shorts and t-shirts, she put them in the bag so that a passing breeze wouldn’t take her clothes with it. Leiko also pulled out and then began walking carefully to a part of the rock that hung over the water. Taking a running start, being careful not to slip, she dove gracefully into the cool night waters. As her head rose back up to the surface, she swam a bit towards a non-existent horizon. She was always amazed how the water and the night sky always merged into one on dark nights such as this when it was a new moon. She swam for a while, feeling her muscles warm and her skin grow accustomed to the temperature of the water. This was always an activity that made her feel much more freed than how she normally felt when sitting in her own room. It felt as if she could walk or swim endlessly and still not reach a concrete destination. She could just keep moving endlessly until she got tired, which she did, which was also around the time she noticed her fingers beginning to prune, which was when she began to swim back towards the shore.
She was a bit more careful with climbing up the rocks, given that she was wet and at a higher risk of slipping off and falling. She had cut her leg on these rocks once before, which hadn’t been a pleasant experience. Leiko made it to her spot okay. The flashlight she had turned on had been a good way of finding her spot again through the darkness of this night. When she got there she turned it off, sitting on one towel and wrapping her shoulders and arms in another. Leiko wasn’t quite ready to dry off and head back to the house yet, so she just sat there, looking out at the water, still hard to determine from the black sky. There were no qualms she had to ponder over or problems she had to solve, so this was a moment for her mind as well as her body to just relax before she decided to head back.

It was nighttime again and of course Vayne could be found in his apartment. What was he doing? Well, usually he was slumped over his desk with a textbook open so he could study, but Vayne wasn't at his desk. He was lying on his bed with his arms tucked behid his pillow as he stared up at the ceiling. His hazel eyes simply locked in on one area as he lost himself in his thoughts. Vayne's mind was always thinking about things, it was a bit of a curse for a calculative type like him. Always thinking ahead and seeing out every possibility before taking action, and his analytical ability was impressive as well. Hell, sometimes he would just take a stroll around the island glancing here and there at the random couples. He always liked to analyze the situation, sometimes he would laugh a bit when he saw a poor schmuck falling into an obvious trap set up by his girl.
However, this time he wasn't analyzing anything...except for his past. Why was Vayne taking a peak behind that black curtain? Mostly because...he was recalling on what his late-foster parents wanted from him. They always told him to get out and meet new people and just try to open up, only because they believed that Vayne had a lot to give as long as there was someone willing to accept him. Vayne never really believed them, but he did eventually decide that he would give it a shot. Thing was...he never got a chance to talk to them about it. They were gone now. Murdered in cold blood. Vayne's body was starting to heat up a bit because of these thoughts, and before he delved any deeper into his past. He sat up quickly and stood up. He shook the thought to the side as a sigh escaped from his lips, "Why is it that whenever I think about their wishes...I am always reminded of their tragedy as well..."
Vayne took a quick glance through his window and then around his room. He was surrounded by his clothes, books, and other oddities. He needed to get out and get some fresh air. It was a great idea. He couldn't stand being here in his room anymore, so he headed over to his dresser and rifled through it for some clothes. He was changing because even though fresh air sounded like a great idea, he decided that taking a late night dip into the water would be awesome too. Once he found his trunks, he slipped into them and threw on a regular white t-shirt. He grabbed a towel from his bathroom before he left the apartment and hit the path towards Pirate Cove.
While he was walking down the path towards the Cove, he was looking up at the sky. Vayne always had a small fascination with space. The vastness of all that darkness...it always seemed to call out to him. Well, then again with his gift it was a bit cliche that he would find the darkness comforting. He shrugged the thought aside as he continued to walk down the pathway. It was a bit of a trek, but it was probably one of the reasons why he liked this place so much. It was a bit of a walk away from the population, and to top it all off, it was always pretty empty. During the day a few people would come for the view and what not, but around this time of the day people usually didn't come up here.
Vayne stopped at the rockwall he usually had to climb to get to his diving point. He glanced up at the height of the thing, and because of the night it was a bit hard to see where the top was. He shrugged his shoulders and rubbed his hands together before he started his climb upwards. This too took a bit of time, but when Vayne got to the top he was prepared to just lie down and rest in peace. However, things weren't exactly working out for him because there was already someone there. Sitting down on a blanket, was a young woman. Her hair was dripping wet, which meant that she had just took a jump into the water herself.
Vayne didn't like how awkward this was starting to seem, but he had already walked all the way out here, and he sure as hell wasn't going to just turn around because there was someone else here. He sighed to himself and stood up straight before he addressed the girl, "Now...why would a girl like you be out here at this time of the night." He was going to walk towards her, but on second thought, it would seem like he was preparing to harass her or something. Instead he opted to walk off to the side of her as he kept his eyes out towards the water and how the moon was reflected in it.

There was no moon present tonight. This was the night when the moon’s new cycle would begin, hence the title of ‘new moon’. If she was being honest, Leiko had always preferred a full moon. It made it much easier to see at night, without the necessity of a flashlight, especially when she was coming out here to the cove on her own. Leiko rarely kept her own company, aside from that of her family. She had but one person outside of her family that she could stand, and that was one of her co-workers from Starbucks. Even at her high school, she didn’t exactly have friends. There wasn’t a particular group, even a small one, that she regularly socialized with. The closest thing she had were acquaintances, people she sometimes exchanged pleasantries with in class or partnered up with when she was forced to for school activities. Most of the time she felt she was better off with herself for company, and that was what she normally stuck to. The only company she sought on regularly was that of her family. That was the reason she liked to visit this section of the beach which was normally avoided by the majority of people.
Most, but clearly not all people. She could hear an odd sound to the right of her, and turned just in time to see the head of somebody poking out. The sound surprised her, but the person seemed to just be noticing her there too, and therefore wasn’t out to try and attack her, not like that option would frighten her too deeply, as her martial arts training prepared her for such events in life. Still, her eyes hadn’t fully adjusted to the dark, so she did take her flashlight in one hand. The man, now clearly a man by his height and general silhouette, all that she could currently see in this complete darkness, said to her, ”Now... why would a girl like you be out at this time of the night?” That was when she turned on her flashlight, and the bright light happened to be pointed directly at his face as she turned it on. Quickly she moved the light out his eyes, giving him a quick, ”Sorry”
since it wasn’t good to shine light in a person’s eyes when they could easily slip off these rocks and get seriously hurt. From what she had gotten to see of his face a moment ago, he looked to be older than her, but probably not by too much. He was also handsome, something she recognized merely in a factual manner. ”The same reason you’re here, from what I can deduce,” she said in response to his question, her flashlight moving to point to a leg of his swim shorts. ”Just felt like a midnight dip in the ocean.” Turning off the flashlight, now that she had gotten a glance of him, she set it back down at her sides. Feeling a cool breeze blowing past the both of them, she pulled her towel closer around her shoulders, pulling up her knees to keep them close to her chest. ”Don’t let my presence stop you from enjoying the water though.” she told him, gesturing towards the waves that were still audible, even if the darkness of the water still blended together perfectly with the solid black sky. Vayne had to admit, he wasn't entirely too sure why this young lady was out at this night. Sure, maybe she did want to just take a dip in the middle of the night, but there were so many other places waaaaay more safer than the place they were in. Most girls would probably just pick a nice secluded place, that wasn't such a pain in the ass to get to. Then, the young lass shined her flashlight towards Vayne, but to his horrible luck she aimed it square at his face. He flinched and tried to block it with his hand, but his powers reacted faster than he did. The shadows around him quickly sprung up and formed a small wall in front of him. He heard the girl apologize for her little mishap, and Vayne quickly lowered the shield.
He rubbed the side of his head with his right hand and said, "Nah no prob. I might've overreacted when my shield came up out of no where to protect me. I'm sorry, its become kind of second nature for me to be prepared for any surprises." Well, honestly he had technically been working on it himself. If Vayne wasn't studying he would spend countless hours within the darkness of his room with his eyes closed. He was trying to get a better feel for his powers, granted this whole island was filled with people with special powers, but he wanted to have a better control over his own powers and emotions.
The last time he overreacted or allowed his emotions to get the better of him, he ended up slaughtering that house where a gang lived. It was the same gang that had taken his foster family from him, the very same gang that took away the last spectrum of light he saw within his life at that point. So, in a way, he was very glad that he lost control that night. It gave him the chance to deliver upon those vandals the justice that the common folk couldn't bring to them. Vayne's eyes lowered as he disappeared into his thoughts, but he came back to reality and glanced back over to the young lady.
She was just sitting there, quiet and calm. He couldn't help, but wonder what was on her mind. However, it wasn't in his nature to go around prying into people's business. He sighed gently to himself, as he figured he would just take the woman's advice and just enjoy the water. He walked away from her and glanced over the edge of the cliff. It was night time now, and the tide was coming in, which meant the water was starting to get rougher. It wasn't a good idea for people to be swimming in these conditions, but hey it wasn't like Vayne was scared hell...he wasn't even technically a normal human being either.
He took a few steps back as he removed his muscle shirt, and stretched his arms out a bit. He was trying to give his muscles a gentle wake up call so none of them would just cramp up on him during his swim. After a few moments of small stretches, Vayne dug his right foot into the ground before taking a running start towards the edge of the cliff. Vayne jumped over the edge and pointed his fingertips out towards the water to give his body the shape of a spear. His eyes were closed as the wind howled past his ears as he descended towards the water below.
He didn't know how long it was until his fingers pierced the surface of the water, but when it did. His body immediately sprung into action. As soon as he felt his feet get engulfed by the water, he quickly started kicking his feet to sink further into the depths of the water. He wanted to go deeper, mainly because the shadows were under the water as well, and it was within the comfort of his element that Vayne felt truly at home. He stayed down there for a bit, before starting to surface.
When his face broke through the water he gasped for air before swimming back to the shore. He glanced up at the moon before looking back over to the cliff. He was wondering if he should go home or go back up the cliff again, but before he could even make up his mind, he was already on his way back over to the cliff. It took a few moments, but he climbed back up to his spot, and of course, the young lady was still there. He sighed as he took a seat away from her and glanced up at the night sky. It was a bit eery with the silence between the two of them, but what could he do? He wasn't the initiative type.
