Because of that, he believes his mission is to kill all the Devil's spawn and send them back to hell from whence they came. And so far, he has done this with the blessing and support of the Heaven's Will cult.

John Orion Freeman was born in Seattle to a upper-middle class family. His father was a successful businessman, and his mother used to be a lawyer. He lived a rather happy life with them, and despite their wealth, they never hired a babysitter and as such, John was always with his family. He was happy. Even when specials began showing up, he didn't mind. One of them was even his best friend for a while.
But then, things changed. When he was nine, a burglar stole into their home. His father died trying to stop him, and his mother raped then killed. John barely got away, but not before the burglar revealed himself to be an elemental of fire and nearly roasted John alive. The huge scar on his back was a momento of what had happened.
He crawled to a nearby church - a fledgling Heaven's Will cult. There, the priest took him in, adopted him, and raised him. While there, he was indoctrinated, and told that those specials were nothing more than spawns of the Devil himself, as their very powers to manipulate the world around them spit in God's face and their very existence is blasphemous to His name. It did not take much to indoctrinate young John - the hatred he bore against the burglar and murderer of his parents helped greatly.
As John grew, the Heaven's Will cult grew and spread influence, gaining members. Eventually, John was given the mission from God - to eradicate those spawns of the Devil. The very first mission was the one who killed his parents. John took the mission with both religious and vengeful eagerness. Within a week, the burglar was dead.
Soon, he went all around the country, silently assassinating the spawn and leaving like a ghost. He became the greatest warrior of the cult. Then he received news and a new mission - Cashille Island. It was the greatest concentration of the Devil's spawn. His mission? Go and eradicate as many as he could. Spread fear among them so they would never dare use their powers, or better yet, make them surrender to death for their sin of existing.
And so, John moved to Cashille Island. He was ready to destroy all these infidels in the Lord's name.
